Columbus Day
Christopher Columbus was an explorer and navigator, who was born in 1451 in the Republic of Genoa, Italy. In 1492 Columbus set an expedition, determined to find a route from Europe that led to Asia. Unfortunately, instead of finding the route Christopher columbus stumbled into the America’s. Yet, he did not discover the land, people who were already living in the americas were natives. They welcomed christopher and his people to their homeland and accepted to trade with them.
In the US today the second monday of October is seen as the day Christopher Columbus set foot in the America’s. Christopher Columbus is often portrayed as the first European to go to the America’s but it is said the first people who saw America were vikings. In addition, the land was already populated with indigenous people who had already discovered the land years before.
I believe Columbus Day should be considered a holiday because although Christopher Columbus did not discover the America’s without him, we would have never known that America even exist. Like long before people though the earth was flat and the round so Christopher proved that there was earth on the other side of the world.
